Bojidar Dimitrov, PhD, was born in the ancient Bulgarian town Sozopol in 1945. After graduating the History department of the University of Sofia "St. Kliment of Ohrida" in 1974, he continued his specialization in paleography at the Paris Institute for Research and History of Texts and the Vatican School of Paleography and Diplomatics. His academic efforts focus on medieval study and research. He is author of 30 books and more than 250 papers and articles. Since 1991 Professor Bojidar Dimitrov has been Director of the National Museum of History in Sofia. Alexander Fol Vasil Giuzelev, PhD Antoniy Handjiysky, MA, was born in Sofia. He graduated the University of Sofia "St. Kliment of Ohrida" in 1980 with a degree in Geography. He worked as a journalist and wrote hundreds of articles about the natural, cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria. He is the scriptwriter of four popular scientific films. He is the author of "Gouffre Berger Expeditions 1969 and Pierre-Saint-Martin 1973" (1977), and co-author of "Rock Monasteries" (1985), "Natural Sights in Bulgaria" (1986) "Stone Shields of Bulgaria" (1988). In 1990 he and Viara Kandjeva established Borina Publishing House, which they run together. Viara Kandjeva, MA, was born in Bourgas. She graduated the University of Sofia "St. Kliment of Ohrida" in 1980 with a degree in Geography. She is the author of "Kapka's Wonderful Advenutre" (1992), "Adventures in Geography" (1993), co-author of "Natural Beauties in Bulgaria", "Natural Sights in Bulgaria" and the compiler of "Chess Encyclopedia" (1988). She is the scriptwriter of "The Devil's Throat" - a popular science film (1986), prize winner at the 9th Festival of Speleology and Adventure films in Chapelle-en-Vercors, France - special prize of the jury and the prize of the French press; prize winner at a festival in China. In 1990 she and Antoniy Handjiysky established Borina Publishing House, which they run together. Felix Kanitz Margharita Koeva, PhD Teofana Matakieva-Lilkova, PhD, is an Art History graduate from the Academy of Arts in Sofia (1977). Shortly after she joined the staff of the National History Museum as keeper of the ecclesiastic art collection. She devoted some 15 years of of her career to gathering and setting up the Museum collection of icons. This has taken her to on numerous expeditions to all ends of Bulgaria and particularly to not so thoroughly explored regions such as Strandzha, Sakhar and the Eastern Rhodopi mountain. There she collected icons donated to or bought by the Museum. In 1985 she received her PhD with the research paper "St John of Rila Iconography - spread of his image and life in the works of art (13th-19th century)". Teofana Matakieva-Lilkova is author of over 40 scientific research publications on late medieval and revival icon paintings which she has discovered herself.
